Glossary

FLOOR

The container has a plywood sole.

CORTEN

Special type of 2mm thick steel used for manufacturing containers. It is a type of low-alloy steel with a high copper content, used for making containers. It offers high resistance to environmental factors.

TWISTLOCK

A special type of coupling used to connect containers vertically.

BRIDGE FITTING

A special coupling used to connect containers laterally.

RAID

The ramp allows easy access to the interior of the container. It facilitates loading with a forklift or pallet jack.

LOCK BOX

A metal box mounted on the closure to prevent tampering with the padlock. It is an additional protection for the door to prevent someone from cutting the padlock.

CUSTOMS EAR

A perforated element on the door or closure, used to place a customs seal or padlock.

CSC

Admission sticker for transportation. It includes the final date of container use in maritime transport. In English, Convention for Safe Containers – container admission for maritime transport.

GRETING

Typical aluminum floor for refrigerated containers. Consists of T-profiles, which facilitate the circulation of air beneath the cargo. Some refrigerated containers have a flat floor with grooves that serve the same function. The greting allows storing cargo without pallets.

PTI

In other words, PRE-TRIP INSPECTION. It is a procedure to inspect the entire refrigerated container, verifying that it is ready for loading and the refrigeration system is functioning correctly. Each refrigeration unit has its own sticker indicating the latest technical inspection. This sticker ensures that the container is in perfect condition. The inspection is carried out before the sea voyage or transportation to the customer.

HDS

It is a vehicle equipped with a crane for container unloading. If the HDS doesn't have sufficient power, it's necessary to use a small crane to unload the container.

AGGREGATE

Electrical device mounted on refrigerated containers. It maintains a constant temperature within the range of -30°C to +30°C inside the container. There are several brands of equipment: Carrier, Daikin, Starcool, and ThermoKing. Each has its advantages and a specific temperature range.

SOC

Shipper's owned container, a container shipped with goods as cargo. The container belongs to the customer during maritime shipping.

WAM

Device mounted on a refrigerated container that allows remote control of temperature and other parameters.

NOR

Non-operating reefer, a refrigerated container with non-operational refrigeration equipment. This container can be used as an insulated container and transported at the cost of a standard container.
